How did we end up with a CRC CEO with no pastoral or geographical experience ?

How many churches have left the Christian Reformed Church denomination during the time that Dan DeKam has been the CRC CEO, and what did he do to try to keep them from leaving, or did he just say 'good riddance?

We need a CEO that's trying to keep us unified . We need more than mr milquetoast macho man at the top position. We need somebody with above- average intelligence and above- average ability to care enough to try to do something to keep us unified.

And I don't mean somebody who will compromise traditional Christian values but at least show some indication that he cares that the congregation stays together.

There's no indication Dan DeKam cares at all, or if so, that he tried much at all to keep us together. It's time for a change. we need a new CRC CEO.

And no more nepotism at this crucial position 🚫. Yes, he is another borgdorff. Not to say the original borgdorff was also a Dan DeKam,  but we're just saying.

We need a fresh face behind the desk, and at this position it's important to have somebody who's had some actual pastoral experience, and actually obtained an M.Div, especially if you're working with churches led by people who have that same requirement.

Those pastors who went thru the laborious process of  obtaining an M.Div, or more, are going to relate better to somebody else who's gone thru the same experience,  rather than a former school principal calling them up.

There's not going to be that same level of camaraderie and respect without the same level of academic & experiential dedication to the craft of church leadership.

Having Dan De Kam at the highest position in the CRC  without the highest qualifications is a smack in the face to all those who went to seminary and did the hard work,  sometimes even humiliating work, of both the academics & starting out at the experiential bottom of the ladder to get to a position of leadership in the church.

And yet here is Dan DeKam with a bachelor's degree and  a little bit of small high school teaching and  principal experience,  and  suddenly he's the  CRC CEO, the highest position in the Christian reform congregation?!

It doesn't make any sense other than that he married into the borgdorff family, and other than that he's from West Michigan.

There are  CRC's all over the USA and Canada many with very professional well- qualifed leadership who painstakingly worked their way up to the church leadership ladder,  and yet somehow we end up with a CRC CEO who has little or no actual pastoral or geographical experience?!

Did we (they) make him  the CRC CEO because he grew within a certain proximity to the headquarters of the CRC and never left ? And because he never went to seminary?  And because he never pastored a church?

If we're just going to go back to choosing leaders based on small town clique-ishness, why even encourage a son, or daughter,  to go to seminary?  To complete the normal requirements and prerequisites for church leadership? If it all just comes down to being the local boy?

The e CRC is all about churches and church leadership.  The CRC CEO needs to be the ultimate pastor! A pastor -to- pastors. The same way a church pastor  shows care and concern about keeping a marriage together and doing marriage counseling, a qualified CRC CEO should show similar care and concern about keeping the congregation together, without compromising traditional Christian values.

The CRC CEO should show some sign of care & concern about keeping the congregation together as much as possible. Previous pastoral experience is greatly valuable in this regard at such a position ! It should be required. It's time for a change at the highest position in the CRC.

How many CRC's have we lost during Dan DeKam  tenureship?  Did we hire a CRC CEO best qualified to bring us down? Or build us up? Did we hire a captain to make sure the ship sinks or to try to make it float again?
