"GRAND RAPIDS, MI - After 105 years on the city's Southeast Side, the First Christian Reformed Church got a boost when the National Fund for Sacred Places gave the church a $100,000 grant that can be used as part of a $2 million capital campaign.
...When it was built in 1911 and 1912, the church was built with its entrance and bell tower facing Bates Street SE, where it welcomed the Dutch-American neighborhood residents who walked to its Sunday services.
The congregation built its first sanctuary at the corner of Ionia Avenue SW and Weston Street SW, near the current site of the Van Andel Arena in downtown Grand Rapids. From 1868 to 1912, the congregation worshiped on Commerce Avenue SW until it moved to its current location. "
