now a chemistry genius at stanford, this fellow lived across the hall, same dorm Calvin College: "Todd Martinez , the David Mulvane Ehrsam and Edward Curtis Franklin Professor of Chemistry at Stanford "

(apparently smart in terms of the physical sciences, but where he came from remains a mystery. His roommate was Steve Brinks, son of a CRC missionary ( Argentina, Dominican)  ..and we would occasionally hang out together in the dorms, ..Todd usually studied all night and slept all day,..not sure how he worked it out.. the insinuation was that he was also from central or south America.. , after Calvin he went to UCLA, ..i called him once when I was in los angeles and invited him to church ..so naive i was back then to think he had any actual interest in the CRC..(it took a while for it to dawn on me how many students actually go to calvin who could care less about the denomination affiliation, or maybe even care less about the church or Christianity. For many, it apparently is/was a decent affordable  private college . ) . Anyways, I noticed now he lists New York as where he grew up. Meanwhile, Steve is a teacher in Grand Rapids..

"Stanford chemists develop 'nanoreactor' for discovering new chemical reactions"..
"You can just hit a button and it will tell you all the reactions that are important," said senior author Todd Martinez , the David Mulvane Ehrsam and Edward Curtis Franklin Professor of Chemistry at Stanford. "It uses a hybrid approach that incorporates physics and machine learning to discover all the possible ways that your chemicals might react, and that might include reactions or mechanisms we've never seen before.".."
