IT dawned upon me as I reflected on various life events & experiences in BOTH the Catholic Church as well as Protestant that in the Catholic Church priestly abstinence and non-marriage is required (in general, not absolutely; there are a few circumstances where catholic priests are allowed to be married), while on the OTHER HAND in the protestant church, by and large, the emphasis is on the pastor being 'MARRIED with CHILDREN"..; maybe non-married leaders will be tolerated but they are, in general, not very welcome. In some cases MARRIED with CHILDREN is the PRIMARY PROOF of one's qualification to be a church leader, and NOT married is usually an unspoken disqualification. In fact, in some cases being MARRIED with CHILDREN is SO IMPORTANT it is almost like a "golden calf" the Israelites worshipped. ...it IS GIVEN OUT-OF-PROPORTION importance to the point of being DANGEROUS. i encourage protestant churches and the Christian Reformed Church to keep this in mind as they proceed forward in trying to DO GOD'S WILL.
